My girlfriend recently decided to join the Archival effort by recording her experience of the game running on the ePSXe - Enhanced PSX Emulator, oddly enough the only PSX Emulator that can run Minecraft PSX
Here are her experiences.
"Minecraft Playstation Edition" is a game developed by Mojang Studios in the Year 1998 in a partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment for the Playstation Console released in 1994, this game was a pre-cursor to the classic 'Minecraft' of 2009, although not many people are aware of it due to it being pulled from store shelves just a year after release with only a 1000 or so copies ever being sold, I was lucky enough to stumble upon a copy at a retro game store about a month ago, here's my experience with the title.
If you'd like to play the game yourself via emulation here's a link to a rom to download as finding a physical copy like myself is nearly impossible to do: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/mcsx-minecraft-ps1-edition
Thanks to xKazIsKooIx for ripping the game files to allow others to play the game
Any help to learn more about the game would be appreciated as I'm still learning about it myself and plan to continue my exploration into the title more on this channel

Fun video! leep the good work!!

10/15/2024 @RioJorgensenSjostrom: Love the mods!
08/05/2024 @thatemocat: Here’s the problem I have with this “ARG”. It’s based of one of the modern versions such as 1.15-6, it’s not utilizing the whole beta aesthetic nor is it based off that version. It’s just a mishmash of the two. What would have been better is if it was made and coded to play exactly like the alpha versions since it fits the older gen console style.
08/05/2024 @Benefard: ps1 games never get updated, unless in a different region, but that's only once and never again. they are always finished, so it would make sense to do the same for minecraft
08/05/2024 @ToyFreddyGaming1987: There are multiple reasons why Minecraft: PS1 Edition/MCSX is on version 1.18.2 Minecraft and has multiple mechanics from later versions instead of being a direct replica of Alpha Minecraft.
The PS1 Shader this mod is based around breaks on versions older than 1.12 and beyond (to my knowledge), so that's why a much later version is used. In addition some of the mods used only exist for 1.18.2, specifically the mod that makes it so your skin is Steve (it would be pretty immersion breaking if you could use any skin you please). While it could be possible, trying to make a 1 to 1 version of Alpha Minecraft on 1.18.2 is pretty hard.
This pack aims to be a "complete" version of Minecraft. As another person in this reply chain said, PS1 games didn't get updated, so it would be odd to have what is an Alpha version of a game be released on to the console.
While Alpha Minecraft with a PS1 Shader would be more accurate to what a PS1 could produce, it would also be a lot more boring. By mixing the 1.18.2 version of the game, Alpha/Beta content, and the Legacy Console Edition, it produces something that is certainly unique. Also it provides a much richer gameplay experience, as playing Minecraft Alpha with PS1 Shader would well, just be Minecraft Alpha with a PS1 Shader.
In addition to all of that, its also kinda similar to that of a old creepypasta. What is essentially Modern Minecraft running on a PS1 may seem crazy, but it's pretty in line for a classic creepypasta. Although I honesty can't blame ya for thinking it breaks immersion though. The PS1 (and probably the PS2) would most certainly not be able to run this.
08/05/2024 @NiNji_Metalsonic: I do agree but if a mod would do something like that then I feel like the new textures should be down graded and add old gameplay elements and features
09/05/2024 @CooISkeleton96: The whole point of PSX is for it to feel otherworldly, if it was just like the alpha versions it would feel like a generic horror mod as alpha/beta versions are known to be “scary”
PSX is suppose to twist your mind as you see all these “modern” features in a game that came out in 1998
That’s why I think it would be a bad idea for it to be based on alpha versions
09/05/2024 @thatemocat: @CooISkeleton96 Yet it kills the immersion for me. There’s clearly a lot of discrepancies with the hardware and game.
09/05/2024 @CooISkeleton96: @thatemocat I mean, fair enough, it’s just something you have to accept as this is basically what Minecraft in a “complete form” would look like
10/05/2024 @BasementDweller_: Comeback!
10/31/2024 @kyeoconnorred1423: Is it the same dude that made the MCSX discord server
07/05/2024 @tmnkm2504: Hello, download this modpack but the torches and everything that illuminates in the game illuminates absolutely nothing. Does anyone know how I can fix it?
08/05/2024 @BanditBoyzzz: This is not the mod pack there was a version of Minecraft from 1998 but was never published hardly anyone know about this version I know there’s a mod pack but there’s a real one
10/15/2024 @baloneyhotdogmaster: Please post again
05/05/2024 @MellowedGrooves: This PSX thing is cool, but I feel like it's a little.. empty?
Also I wish there was a mod with the "emulator" to make the visual effects less eyestraining
05/05/2024 @greenbloxgamer9786: It’s supposed to feel empty
06/05/2024 @lifesux._.: The visuals are ment to be eyestraining
06/05/2024 @CallTheDocter: You gave two points of its purpose nice ☠️
09/05/2024 @Lurou-f3c: Hello
Minecraft horror
07/05/2024 @abgamingaboody2595: PLS PLS PLS PLS OLS DO A BEDROCK VERSION OF THIS MODPACK
08/05/2024 @BanditBoyzzz: It’s not a mod I know there’s a mod pack for it but this is real
05/05/2024 @rockman23231: My native language is Spanish, by chance they don't have a version without the static and random jumpscare that scares the monster and the atmosphere itself :( the rest is unnecessary
05/05/2024 @GabrielGameplaySonicOFC: But the modpack is supposed to be a horror "arg" basically
06/05/2024 @TRUEHATRED: That’s the point
08/05/2024 @ToyFreddyGaming1987: If you really wish to play a non horror version of this pack, you will have to go into the files and remove the horror mods directly.
These include: MCSX Nightmares, Sanity Mod, The Midnight Lurker, True Herobrine and Inferno's Herobrine mod.
You'll also have to go to "Global Packs Required Data" and Resource Packs and remove both files that say "From the Fog".
From there, you'll be able to enjoy a PS1 version of Minecraft without any horror!
