Outsmarting Dark Dev

I was initially under a panic when Dark Dev took The Gold Block, but after a bit of thinking, I have discovered that the only way to beat a deadly mob like Dark Dev, is to not directly fight it at all, though but I cant help but think it wasn't acting normal, it seems way too tame this time, what caused this?
