I have heard on the Sirius XM Beatles channel that when he was growing up as a kid, he lived next to an orphanage/ school with somewhat wooded grounds on a nice piece of land. It was run and funded by a charity or some religious group. He would jump the fence and go climb trees, as little boys are want to do. His aunt, who raised him and with whom he lived, warned and scolded him about trespassing, and the potential consequences for such conduct. John's response, supposedly, was " what are they going to do, hang me?" The name of the orphanage/ school was Strawberry Field, singular. The lyric, "no one I think is is my tree" and the lyric "and nothing to get hung about", reflect's John's memory of growing up there.

Also in honor of John Lennon, they created a brick design for him on the sidewalk that reads: Imagine. It was a very nice place- there where many bikers, a nice little pond! A very peaceful place in the busy city of New York!

He was looking to become an American citizen at the time of his death and he absolutely loved Central Park (where Strawberry Fields is). He went there almost every day where he would walk along and greet his fans and sign autographs. George was cremated too and they spread his ashes in the Ganges. They're both where they wanted to be. John in NYC and George in India.
