11/06/2019 @ferabra8939: Listen to Ringo...Really….listen to him play. You probably don't and never did because he never showed off. But he's a masterful drummer. So masterful that you never listened to him, just the song. This is a deceptively simple drum part, but any drummer out there, imagine John Lennon showing you this song. You wouldn't come up with this part in a million years. That groove lets John lead with his rhythm acoustic guitar, Paul shine with his melodic bass line, and George do his lead guitar fills….Only when he finds space, does Ringo his drum roll before the chorus comes in. A pre-chorus drum roll!
11/06/2020 @rickhartline7883: Ringo was a brilliant drummer that fit perfectly with the Beatles..
11/06/2020 @progressiveRAMONETTI: Ringo's work with the lads was truly beautiful drumming.
11/06/2020 @itamarbushari88: Absolutely agree, his amazing and fabulous
11/06/2020 @glipabazza9994: Seriously, dude. Ringo did as usual the strict minimum, he was a very basic rock drummer. Listen to Bill Bruford or even better Billy Cobham, you'll get it.
11/06/2020 @specialagent400: Ringo's the reason I'm the drummer I have become. Amazing musician. Defiantly my favorite
11/06/2020 @itamarbushari88: @specialagent400 wow, cool, he's a great inspiration
11/06/2020 @itamarbushari88: @glipabazza9994 but that what a drummer should be
11/06/2020 @beatnum: He's one of the best ever. If not the best. Way underrated
11/06/2020 @beatnum: Some songs call for the bare minimum. He understood the drums are meant to keep the tempo to much drumming ruins songs like these
11/06/2020 @itamarbushari88: @beatnum yeah, I don't get why people don't apriciate more, and so disrespect him
11/06/2020 @gdalcorso1: I did listen...for example, right after the a cappella opening, at about fifteen seconds in, right before "Doesn't have a point of view," Ringo gives a tap-tap on his drum prodding the song into gear. Perfectly understated.
11/06/2020 @rosemariemartin1361: A good musician gives the song what it needs. Which is why he's called a million dollar drummer.
11/06/2020 @jjla6427: You are soo right, Ringo is a great drummer.
11/06/2020 @itamarbushari88: @jjla6427 yalpl
11/06/2020 @RickCornell: Fer Abra Yes! Recall his drumming on “Come Together,” for example. Masterful, and hugely underrated!
11/06/2020 @pierrecubbage2980: Glip Abazza well there’s really nothing to get. Completely apples and oranges. Bill Bruford and Billy Cobham can play circles around Ringo from a technical standpoint. But would they have made the Beatles better? I don’t think so. I love both of them but there is an art to playing what the song needs and nothing more. And Ringo did that perfectly.
11/06/2020 @tomlongshore5464: Sina Drums pays a tribute to Ringo. Very much worth the listen.
11/06/2020 @Claymor621: It’s like he probably was in their conversations, contributing from the periphery but part of the dynamic. Just sort of there.
11/06/2020 @Claymor621: Glip Abazza Sometimes the minimum is the optimum. Many years ago some guys I knew were making a record. The company had paid for a top drummer, you will know his stuff well, all drummers will. They asked for a particular feel or something and he was a bit arsey because apparently what he did would just be ‘right’. Give me a Ringo who just tries to fit and help things along.
11/06/2020 @giovannispinotti: @glipabazza9994 I have listened all kind of drummers, including Cobham. Many I have also recorded. If you come here to comment on Ringo that you should listen to Cobham to get it, maybe it is you that don't get it.
11/06/2020 @VR-ok8ub: Ringo is respected on both sides of the pond. You only have to watch one of the documentaries on Legendary drummers being discussed by other musicians, and some drummers as well!!
11/06/2020 @luizfellipe3291: The drums are a fundamental part in any rock music
The drummer is replaceable
11/06/2020 @Soapandwater6: @gdalcorso1 - It's the little things and you definitely notice them. Ringo didn't just play drums. He played music, always doing his part to embellish the song instead of glory-seeking.
11/06/2020 @carysthuma2963: I always pay extra close attention to Ringo's splendid drumming because I am a drummer myself; and it truly is extraordinary.
11/06/2020 @Waterloosunset2: @glipabazza9994 Playing fast and having lots of drums is nice. The two you mentioned are great technical drummers. I loved Yes and appreciated Cobham, although I don't particularly care for jazz or that fusion stuff Mahavishnu did. Carl Palmer is fabulous as were John Bonham and Keith Moon and all in different ways. Buddy Rich Gene Krupa, I've listened to them all,, but Ringo is possibly the finest in the song drummer I've ever heard. He plays for the song and never steps all over it. His timekeeping is like a metronome, rock solid back beat, memorable fills, and a swampy sound that is very distinctive. You don't have to be flashy to be great. You need to be able to serve the song. He fit the music of the greatest songwriting duo ever, perfectly. End of story/
11/06/2020 @lpsalyanna: Paul taught Ringo how to drum most of the time. But I believe Ringo did this by himself so that's cool.
11/06/2020 @Orion12113: “He never showed off” the end starts faintly playing
11/06/2020 @jurgenneuen7235: @glipabazza9994 Imagine Billy Cobham playing on this song . Or better not.
11/06/2020 @sherriouellette8745: Ringo has the cutest lips I have ever seen.....
11/06/2020 @mikehowlett8225: 🙏
11/06/2020 @kamakirinoko: @glipabazza9994 My fabulous furry friend . . . you compare the finest Japanese lacquerware with the unmatched cave paintings of Lascaux or the frescoes on the walls of Herculaneum. Billy Cobham plays an entirely different style of music, to just name one thing, and I would argue that Tony Williams kicks Billy Cobham's ass. But Tony Williams would be nowhere if there hadn't been a Cannonball Adderley and Bill Bruford is, despite his ambitions, a TERRIBLE jazz drummer. But even he would agree with that.
All that said, The Beatles would not be the Beatles if good old Pete Best had continued playing with them . . .
11/06/2020 @phatato: Thanks for pointing that out! So true
11/06/2020 @kamakirinoko: @iivan1529 And 50% of THEM probably didn't get further than the first sentence.
11/06/2020 @linebeck1381: 1:32 he does a sick drum fill
11/06/2020 @debishelton9647: The bass and drums~ALWAYS the FOUNDATION of the song. <3
11/06/2020 @parkermaciejewski4671: Same with the bass part, I don’t think any bassist would come up with this for this song.
11/06/2020 @debishelton9647: @parkermaciejewski4671 The bass and drums~heartbeat of a band! <3
11/06/2020 @balazstoth8494: @glipabazza9994 Billy Cobham...yeah. but bearly fit with Beatles...:-)
11/06/2020 @kennybluet5527: @pierrecubbage2980 that's right. He kept the beat and kept it well. Plus he had that happy go lucky look on his face that was absolutely essential in keeping with the rest of the band. John ,the understated wise-- ass, George the shy serious one, and Paul the cute one. Ringo was IT. Bruford and Cobham? Way overqualified.
11/06/2020 @kennybluet5527: @lpsalyanna Ringo was the man as I commented elsewhere here. Saw you mention about McCartney. I believe John Lennon was once asked if Ringo was the best drummer in the world and he answered by saying he wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles.
11/06/2020 @juanpabloaraujoarraga9398: well said, just tough of that, i think is resposibile for concept playing
11/06/2020 @carlschumacher3257: @glipabazza9994 john bonham credited ringo for his style.
11/06/2020 @itzmichael4736: That was a very insightful comment. I'm a musician but not a drum analyst and don't often pay attention to drum parts. Your thoughts really made a difference as I listened. I think I might be more focused on drum parts in songs from now on. Wow :) Thanks for that!
11/06/2020 @sunnnnchip: ok
11/06/2020 @austinteutsch: Perfect. Done, well said.
11/06/2020 @nobushidono9897: When people still don't realize that Ringo is left handed. His drumming teacher thought that left handed people were of the Devil, and forced Ringo to learn how to play right handed, on a right handed drum set.
He literally was able to master the opposite side of his brain. Ringo is an amazing drummer, and highly underrated imo.
11/06/2020 @nobushidono9897: @post it O Try playing it on The Beatles: Rock Band on Expert. THAT SHIT IS STRAIGHT FIRE.
11/06/2020 @xdark_matter00: @rickhartline7883 Not very funky
11/06/2020 @emilysophiechristine: I know and he’s the the one that keeps the beat of the whole song
11/06/2020 @MXB2001: The best and worst instrumentalists sound identical to me. I am good though when it comes to vocals.
11/06/2020 @ahshatmasell6751: @kennybluet5527 that comment was made by a british comedian not John lennon
11/06/2020 @kennybluet5527: @ahshatmasell6751 aw man . Really? If that's the case then I'm sorry. Somebody told me about it and I took their word for it.
11/06/2020 @beagle7622: Underated at the time. There is some argument as to who picked him but George Martin certainly thought he was.
11/06/2020 @stevefraser6646: You are correct!!
11/06/2020 @jerrymammoser9857: Fer Abra ...very good
11/06/2020 @jeffc2theb207: ive always enjoyed ringo's drum skills. he's a goofy mofo for sure, but one heck of a drummer!!
11/06/2020 @Lockemeister: Ringo plays metronome super clean. Super clean drum rolls. Amazing drumming.
11/06/2020 @MrRKinLA: Ringo doesn't have flashy chops or take a lot of solos (given the stage, he's much more likely to take a solo as a vocalist - let's face it, that's what audiences are generally more interested in, and Ringo's a showman first), but he has great time, he's remarkably versatile and creative, and he's great at crafting a unique drum part to fit a song, without overplaying or otherwise detracting from the vocals or instrument solos.
I think the biggest compliment Ringo ever got was when Buddy Rich described him as "adequate". Given the late Mr. Rich's legendary candor about the abilities of others, and especially his thoughts about rock 'n' roll drummers, I think Ringo had to be pretty damned good to qualify as "adequate"! :)
11/06/2020 @alanwhitham6429: @itamarbushari88 John Lennon once said , " Ringo isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles " . But there's no doubt , Ringo was a Beatle .
11/06/2020 @itamarbushari88: @alanwhitham6429 😂😂 you it's not a real sentence yeah, so why are you writing that
11/06/2020 @alanwhitham6429: @itamarbushari88 What are you talking about ?
11/06/2020 @itamarbushari88: @alanwhitham6429 John didn't say that thing
11/06/2020 @alanwhitham6429: @itamarbushari88 Yes he did , probably in fun .
11/06/2020 @alanwhitham6429: @itamarbushari88 Maybe it's a myth . Ringo was a great drummer anyway .
11/06/2020 @itamarbushari88: @alanwhitham6429 yeah, ah so what was your point?
11/06/2020 @itamarbushari88: @alanwhitham6429 no someone edited that in last years
11/06/2020 @itamarbushari88: @alanwhitham6429 I only say Ringo is an excellent drummer, as the tpp comment said so
11/06/2020 @lucat9027: I do realise because I’m a drummer and know most of the Beatles song on them
11/06/2020 @paulandrews4996: Ringo is a truly underrated drummer. He works the song. That's it. That being said, he's created some amazing drum parts. If you ever have a chance to catch him live with his All-Starr Band, GO. Such a fun show. My wife was a little hesitant when I suggested seeing him four years ago. She now says it's one of her all-time favorite concerts.
11/06/2020 @paulmartinson7200: @glipabazza9994 bruford with the beatles?
11/06/2020 @bigc7326: Whatevet
11/06/2020 @thisisaspa: just wait until he does a john bonham drum solo
11/06/2020 @JustineLaLoba: just listen to what other great drummers say about Ringo's playing.......the man knew his craft
11/06/2021 @ceebee491: He's got feel, laid back v.cool
11/06/2021 @golondrinadelasfalto8415: Great comment! Thank you! Before being a drummer, he´s a masterful musician!
11/06/2021 @alankardharmadhikari7328: Ringo and George were song serving musicians and one of the best drummer and guitarist ever
11/06/2021 @davidlewispreedy5987: I fucking feel you man
11/06/2021 @stepitupandgo67: and always has the best drum tone!!!
11/06/2021 @sugarwall8794: @beatnum Hey I like the Beatles and all and Ringo is a pretty good drummer, but realistically, he isn’t even close to the best. Maybe top 20 at best
11/06/2021 @julianlewis1792: I have always enjoyed Ringo's drumming, since the beginning.
11/06/2021 @alfonsogaut2017: Thanks for shinning the light on the drums..as I listen I'm hearing what you hear. However if it was never brought to my attention I would've ever focused on the drums and or Ringo. Once again. Thank You
11/06/2021 @ferabra8939: @glipabazza9994 It's you who does not get it. Listen to Ringo. Listen to this. Listen to Something.
11/06/2021 @astrafalustre8259: Ringo sucks. Luckiest guy in the world to have such band mates.
11/06/2021 @debraallen2132: I noticed Phil Collins kept his eye on Ringo when they played in a George Harrison tribute.
11/06/2021 @gordiesings: @glipabazza9994 He did what the song called for.
Remember; John and Paul sought him out. They went to him, not the other way around..
11/06/2021 @raphael_h97: ok
11/06/2021 @zephead843: @glipabazza9994 Or Neil Peart. Or Ian Paice. Or John Bonham. But at the end of the day, Ringo was the best man for the job and I think we can agree that The Beatles will always be the greatest band the world has ever known.
11/06/2021 @manormouse1410: @glipabazza9994 NO... I won`t listen to your drummers. You are missing the point. Ringo and in fact all the Beatles put together simple parts that made the Whole. The collective was bigger than the parts. No egos. Teamwork that created Masterpieces. There has never been anything that comes close
11/06/2021 @strigoi_beats: Sometimes less is more.
11/06/2023 @camdite2506: Bongo by the beat of your own drum
11/06/2023 @kennethhutto6420: I like it. Man. And good song.
11/06/2023 @badplay156: One of the great rock drummers, I believe it was John Bonham but I could be wrong, once said that Ringo was one of the most underrated drummers of all time. He said his drumming always fit perfectly with the songs being played. He then challenged any other drummer to be able to say the same thing about any other drummer.
11/06/2023 @miarigney4099: I love his singing the best
