03/21/2024 @halberd-3291: I feel bad for HIM (smiling dark character). Seemed like he was an excited kid happy to have people to play Minecraft with, and probably not many friends or interests outside of that. So when the bullies grieved his world and reminded him of his trauma with his mother, he gave up on happiness and went down the path leading to whatever he became.
Honestly I think this series is ultimately about a combination of nostalgia, mental health, and a fixation on the past. What with the focus on Minecraft as the subject of nostalgia, old friendships lost, as well as the implication that HIM and possibly Chris as well took their own lives due to their mental health and experiences like in this video.
Andrew doesn’t really seem to be that much different from who HIM was, both kids playing Minecraft as an escape and having few friends. It seems like the only way that Andrew might be able to “win” in this situation is to let go of the past. And accept he can still move forward even if he can’t go back to what he had before. But that’s just my theory, while the supernatural-ish stuff can feel a bit cheesy at times, I’m also a huge fan of how symbolic it feels.
Can’t wait for the next one.

Andrew would have to accept change and move on, his friendship with Chris. Which will be bittersweet.
HIM would be them letting go of what happened and allow themselves to open towards people again, and those who really care and love him. If we have a redemption arc in someway I feel like Andrew would play a part in it. His Ending being a lot more happier as a resolution

I would say though that there appear to be more dark “ghost” characters than just “HIM” and Chris, like the character in the description of the Realms video who speaks in proper lowercase as well as whoever was behind the “Lethe protocol” video. I mean in the Realms video the dark figure Andrew sees doesn’t have a smile, so not HIM, but they also may not be Chris because of the all lowercase desc.
Andrew is supposedly subject 136 meaning lots more people are part of this. All that to say dark figure =/= HIM for sure. I think he’s playing in this mainly because his all caps lock writing has been framing this as his origin story of sorts.

When we first hear Smiler talk in Island in the Mist, Smiler speaks in all caps while in Winter Wonderland, the signs left by Chris has the regular way of writing, and we can see in the title of this video and the description of the 2014-02-28, it is all caps, suggesting that it was Smiler, not Chris. Another evidence I have is that Smiler said his only option was the well while he was in the bunker, which may prove why he is obsessed with the 'Call of the Well' as he had no one to turn to other than the ominous well.

This series reminds me of the things I went through as a kid, being extremely similar to what the Smiling dude went through. Struggling through loss, depression, and lack of friendships. I felt abandoned and alone, any attention from anyone felt wrong and I always chose to isolate. I did awfully in school, and was pretty different compared to other kids, which led to lots of bullying. I was severely bullied from a young age and attempted to take my own life via OD about 4 years ago In October. Although I understand that this is an ARG, it truly shows what bullying does to somebody. In fact, the things that the smiley guy went through are so ridiculously similar to some of the things that I did, with the only difference being that the abuse and loss was from my father. I was also taken advantage of and hurt plenty of times as a kid, losing entire friend groups because I was different. The severe toll that loss and bullying had on me drove me to suicide. I am far better now, yet still in mental recovery. I am not wishing for any pity or attention from this message, I just wanted to convey what going through hellish things as a child does to a person. And Andrew, if this series is based off of anything you have gone through, then I'm sorry, but really, thank you for making this. It really speaks to me.

Just because someone else had a worse experience does not mean that your experience was bad. Bullying, and the fact that it has become so normalized to the point that there are entire ARGs centered around it, are not something to be taken lightly. Your experience matters as much as any other.
